GUWAHATI: Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Jogen Mohan has appealed to the public to inform the Government if any lat mandal or revenue official seeks a bribe to perform official land-related work, so that strict action can be taken against the official concerned. Mohan was reacting to a query regarding several lat mandals being arrested by the Vigilance and Anti-Corruption branch of the Assam Police. The Minister said that soon after the new Government headed by Himanta Biswa Sarma took charge last year, more than 700 land brokers were arrested on a single day, which had itself indicated that the new Government will not tolerate corruption.

He said that the arrests of corrupt officials are the result of a non-stop campaign by the police and this will continue in the future as well. "The Government's main objective is to end the 'dalal raj' and ensure that the common people do not face any harassment when they go for land-related work," Mohan said.

He said that persons seeking to lodge complaints against corrupt officials should try to procure some sort of credible evidence beforehand.
