GUWAHATI: Beware while carrying cash! If the amount you carry is Rs 50,000 or less, there’s none to interfere with. If you are to carry more than Rs 50,000, you have to be equipped with documents supporting the amount as to where you’ve drawn it from and for what purpose. If the amount you carry is over Rs 10 lakh, you will have to inform the Income Tax Department of such a huge withdrawal and its purpose. A Lok Sabha poll candidate can spend at the most Rs 70,000. S/he will have show bills for the amount spend.

These are some of the tips for carrying cash during the period when the model code of conduct for the forthcoming Lok Sabha election is in force in the State. Kamrup (Metro) Deputy Commissioner Biswajeet Pegu has spelt the tips out before the media.

Addressing the media in Guwahati on Monday, Pegu said: “There’re as many as 1,195 polling stations in 525 different locations in Guwahati Parliamentary constituency that has four Assembly segments. The number of polling stations in this parliamentary constituency was 500 in the 2014 Lok Sabha election. There are as many as ten all-women polling stations in Guwahati Parliamentary constituency. The security personnel in these ten poll stations will also be women.”

According to the DC, Guwahati Parliamentary constituency has witnessed a rise of 21,884 new voters, and of them 5,36,070 are males, 5,34,062 females and 40 third genders. The total persons with disabilities indentified in Guwahati Parliamentary constituency are 16,000, and of them 475 have their names in the voter list, the DC said. According to him, the number of such voters may go up.

According to the DC, as many as 5,600 poll officials, excluding security personnel, have been engaged in election duty in the district. So far, according to the DC, 54 critical polling stations have been identified in the district and the number may go up or down.

The DC said that the date of notification for filing of nomination papers is March 28 and closing date for filing of nomination papers is April 4. The last date for the withdrawal of candidature is April 8, he said. The entire poll process, according to the DC, has to be completed by May 27. The strong room this year will be at Maniram Dewan Trade Centre.
