Wife beaten to death over Dowry in Guwahati, Husband charged with Murder

Guwahati: A woman and a mother of two children was beaten to death by her husband over alleged dowry issue in Guwahati.

The matter got highlighted after the woman succumbed to injuries at the Advance Neuro Science Hospital in Guwahati today.

It is to be noted that on March 3, 2019, the deceased woman had a heated argument with her husband identified as Safijul Ali over dowry. The husband who is a driver by profession then allegedly thrashed his wife under the influence of alcohol and injured her severely.

Later, family members of the woman after being informed by local people reached the spot and took her to Gate Hospital for immediate medical assistance. However, she was referred to Advance Neuro Science Hospital in Ganeshguri for better medical care.

Speaking to The Sentinel Digital, Noonmati Police Station, officer-in-charge, Chidananda Bora said that the deceased wife was physically assaulted by her husband Safijul Ali with a piece of wood under the influence of alcohol.

Meanwhile, a case has been registered against the accused husband Safijul Ali at Noonmati Police Station (Case No: 116/2019) under section 304 (B) of the Indian Penal Code.

It may be mentioned that the accused is a resident of Panipath area near Geetamandir under Noonmati Police Station in Guwahati.
