GUWAHATI: Latasil Police on Monday arrested the wife of Narayan Chakraborty, the priest of the Paltan Bazar Kali Mandir who was found dead under mysterious circumstances in a quarter of the Railway Colony recently.

Narayan Chakraborty hailed from Cooch Behar in West Bengal. He was priest in the Kali Mandir for five years. He stayed with his wife in the quarter where his body was discovered. The quarter had been allocated to a Railway employee Sanjeev Choudhury and Narayan Chakraborty was asked to look after the quarter in his absence.

Latasil Police had detained eight people in connection with the murder, including Narayan Chakraborty's wife Mousami Chakraborty. On Monday, police arrested her for her alleged involvement in the murder. The couple's elder daughter Bristi Chakraborty was also called for questioning. Police sources said that Bristi told the police that her father used to "physically and mentally torture" her mother.
