GUWAHATI: The BPF (Bodoland People's Front) has decided to cooperate with the next government on all core issues of the people in the BTR (Bodoland Territorial Region) and the State as large. This has been stated by Durga Das Boro, one of the four newly elected BPF legislators. He has been elected from Kalaigaon Constituency in Udalguri district this time.

Talking to The Sentinel, he added, "We fought the Assembly polls along with our allies in the 'Mahajoot'. The BPF secured four seats. In the Assembly, all our four legislators will reflect all the key issues of the people in the BTR and across the State. The BPF will cooperate with the new government in Dispur also on COVID management."

Boro pointed out, "The leader of the BPF legislature party will be selected in the meeting to be held shortly. The meeting will be chaired by BPF president Hagrama Mohilary."

Mentionably, Durga Das Boro has been re-elected as MLA for the second time after 36 years. He was elected to the House for the first time in 1985 as an AGP candidate from the Paneri Constituency under the then Darrang district.

In the 2016 Assembly polls, the BPF won 12 MLAs; and, for the major part of the last BJP-AGP-BPF coalition government's tenure, the BPF was with this coalition. The State Cabinet also had three BPF legislators as Ministers. They were Rihon Daimary, Pramila Rani Brahma, and Chandan Brahma. However, none of them were elected in the 2021 polls.

On the other hand, the BPF contested the 2021 polls as an ally of the Congress-led 'Mahajoot' (Grand Alliance). Besides Durga Das Boro, the other three newly-elected BPF legislators are Majendra Narzary from Gossaigaon, Rabiram Narzary from Kokrajhar West, and Charan Boro from Majbat. They were members of the 14th Assam Legislative Assembly (2016-2021) also.
