GUWAHATI: A woman named Helena was arrested by the Tinsukia police with the help of the Dispur police in the city on Wednesday morning on the charge of blackmailing the Superintendent of Police of Tinsukia, Debojit Deuri.

She was arrested from her flat at the Shanti Plaza Apartments in Kahilipara based on a complaint lodged by the SP.

Sources said that Helena is claiming to be second wife of Debojit Deuri and that they lived together for 14 years. Helena is also claiming that she was merely asking for money for her son's education as Debojit Deuri is his father.

On the other hand, the SP alleged that Helena was blackmailing him by claiming that the child she has with her was sired by him.

OUR CORRESPONDENT ADDS FROM TINSUKIA: Meanwhile, SP Debojit Deuri has told mediapersons that "People keep claiming many things which often turn out to be fake. The law will take its own course of action and the exact motive behind the claim will surface only after proper investigation".
