Workshop Highlights Potential For Food Processing Industry In Assam

GUWAHATI: A workshop was organized by Ministry of Food Processing Industries (MOFPI) with Federation of Industry & Commerce of North Eastern Region (FINER) as an industry partner, at Maniram Dewan Trade Centre here on Friday.

Large number of industrialists, entrepreneurs of Agri based products, self help groups from all over Assam attended the day-long conference.

Speaking at the workshop Union Minister of State for Food Processing Rameswar Teli disclosed various schemes to boost the food processing industry in Assam. He said the Centre would provide give various incentives to the existing and aspiring entrepreneurs in this sector .

Teli said that the entire North East has huge potential for Agri based enterprises and several attractive schemes are already in place in the PMKSY policy framework including financial incentives for Mega Food Parks, Integrated Cold Chain to assist entrepreneurs to establish market linkage across the country and also for exports to ASEAN countries.

The Minister announced the government’s plans to organize a mega food festival at Bogibeel in the early part of 2020 to show case the potential of the region.

Bijay Kr Behera, Economic Advisor to MOFPI, outlined the benefits of the schemes offered by the government and said there is still a huge potential in this sector.

Dr K.K. Dwivedi, Commissioner & Secretary, Industry and Commerce, Government of Assam, offered all support to this sector from the state govt in this sector.

He said that it is heartening to see that exports have already started to Hongkong ,Dubai etc of fresh and processed fruits and vegetables through the LGBI Airport in Guwahati.

Rajeev Agarwal, Vice President, FINER, in his address highlighted the sincere efforts being made by Centre, State Government and FINER to create an eco system for the entrepreneurs to thrive and prosper in this lucrative sector.

The workshop was addressed by eminent experts from APEDA, IIFPT, Academia, Financial sector such as NEDFI, SBI, Nabard, Private Equity Investors, Project Management Agencies, Assam Skill Development Mission, Investors, successful entrepreneurs.
