

GUWAHATI: A two-day workshop was organized by the Department of Agriculture on “Reasons for Variations in Agriculture Productivity across the State” began on Thursday at the Assam Administrative Staff College, Khanapara.
On the inaugural day, Dr Ashish Kumar Bhutani, Additional Chief Secretary (GoA), and APC, while speaking on the occasion, said that for uplifting the agriculture sector in the state, a strategic plan needed to be formulated with proper usage of machinery and scientific technologies for cultivation. The objective of the workshop is to know the variation in productivity in various districts across Assam, he added. The Chairman of the Assam Agriculture Commission, Dr. H. S. Gupta, in his speech during the workshop said that as the state has very fertile soil, good quality seed should be provided to the farmers, creating awareness on the minimum usage of pesticides, stated a press release.
Earlier, Akash Deep, the State Project Director (SPD) of the ARIAS Society, while speaking on the objective of the workshop, said that the state government has come up with various agricultural schemes like the Assam Millet Mission, the Floriculture Mission, the Fodder Mission, etc. He also added that though Assam has very fertile land, production in the cultivable land is at a lower level and needs to be increased to boost the state’s economy.
In order to increase the production and income of the farmers of Assam, the Agriculture Department, Assam Agriculture University Krishi Vigyan Kendra, etc. “Need to work, plan, and execute together,” Dr Bidyut Chandan Deka, VC of Assam Agriculture University, said this while speaking on the occasion.
