World AIDS Day: Employees of ASACS and AIACWA staged a protest in Guwahati

Guwahati: Ahead of World AIDS Day, the employees of  All India AIDS Control Welfare Association (AIACWA) and Assam State AIDS Control Society (ASACS) on Tuesday took to the in front of the office of the Project Director of ASACS and staged a protest demanding regularization of their job, Salary revision and health insurance.

The protesters claimed that there is no hike in salary of over 350 employees of the AIDS Control Committee since 2013 nor they have been provided with any health insurance Scheme like Employees' State Insurance (ESI) Employee's Provident Fund (EPF) etc.

They further stated that for the past 22 years since 1998, the workers of AIDS control organizations have been serving the public interest but still they are not given importance.

A protester said," Earlier also we have submitted memorandum several times to the State Health Department along with the HealthMinister Himanta Biswa Sarma, but till date Minister Himanta Bishwa Sarma did not give any importance to the staff involved in all the health departments."

Another protester said," The Health Minister issued recruitment in various Health department but the severe AIDS control workers are not taken seriously."

"If the government and the health minister do not pay attention to these people and do not fulfill our demand soon, we would stage more violent protest than this in future, Manas Sharma, secretary of the state AIDS control society said.

Worlds AIDS Day takes place on December 1 every year. It is a global opportunity to unite around the world in the fight against HIV, to show support for people living with HIV, and to remember those who have died of AIDS-related illness.
