GUWAHATI: Assam's Excise, Transport and Fisheries Minister Parimal Suklabaidya on Monday attended the State level 'World Fisheries Day' celebrations at the Meen Bhawan at Birubari here.

It is pertinent to mention that Assam has bagged several awards at the national level competitions organized by the National Fisheries Development Board this year in the following categories: Best District from North-East/Hilly areas - Udalguri; Best Quasi Government Organization - Assam Apex Cooperative Marketing & Processing Federation Ltd (FISHFED; Best Farmer (North-East) - Debajit Barman; Best Fisheries/Cooperative Society/FPO/SHGs - Sonbeel Fisherman Cooperative; Best Individual Entrepreneur - Charu Food Products/Processing.

The Fisheries Minister gave away prizes to the winners under various categories at Monday's ceremonial event - Best Fish Farmer, Best Fish Seed Producer, Best Fishery Cooperative and Best Women Enterprise - all at the State level under the aegis of the Assam Fisheries Department. The winners were selected from different parts of the State based on various aspects as judged by the department and technical officers. The event was also attended by the chairperson of FISHFED, Sushila Hazarika, vice-chairman Dilu Sarma, Commissioner & Secretary, Fisheries, Rakesh Kumar and other senior officials, fish farmers etc.
