GUWAHATI: November 21, the World Fishery Day, has proved to be a lucky for Assam that bagged as many as four national awards in various categories in the Fishery Sector.

The four awards are – the best State in the Hilly and Northeast States category, the Best District Award for Nagaon in the district category, the best farmer award to State's fish cultivator Amal Medhi of Nalbari in the farmer category and the best Quasi-government institute award to Assam Apex Cooperative Fish Marketing and Processing Federation Ltd in the relevant category. While the best State award comprising Rs 10 lakh and a citation was received by Fishery Commissioner Rakesh Kumar from Union Fishery Minister Pratap Chandra Sarangi, the best district award was received by Nagaon Fishery Officer Dr Ramen Chandra Barman.

Commenting on the feat, State Fishery Minister Parimal Suklabaidya said, "It's the outcome of collective efforts of all stakeholders in the department. This feat also reflects proper implementation of various fishery schemes of the Central government, besides proper utilization of Central funds."
