World Health Day observed across State

GUWAHATI: Along with the rest of the world, the World Health Day (WHD) was observed in the Health Institutions of Assam with various health activities. The WHD was observed in the National Health Mission, Assam HQ through a video conference with the district health officials. The meeting started with a welcome address by MD, NHM Dr.Lakshmanan S where he appreciated all the health officials for the sincere and selfless effort carried out during the COVID pandemic. Mentioning this year's theme 'Building Fairer and Healthier World for everyone and everywhere' he focused on providing equitable healthcare services along with quality healthcare at minimum financial cost.

Executive Director of NHM, Assam, Dr Manoj Kumar Chaudhary emphasized on taking healthcare services to the grassroot level. He also mentioned that along with Covid activities other health programmes are to be carried out simultaneously.

OSD (Officer on Special Duty), NHM Pomi Baruah addressed the State and district officials by motivating everyone to adapt and adopt the new normal behavior in the current world. She requested one and all to take care of their own health while ensuring equitable healthcare for others. OSD, NHM also mentioned that through the Comprehensive Primary Health Care system, 2209 Health and Wellness Centers in Assam are trying to provide healthcare services to the last household of the community. She also lauded the efforts of frontline workers of Assam, especially the ASHA's who were also lauded by WHO in an article featured in their website. She also emphasized on taking COVID vaccination by all eligible beneficiaries and to adopt COVID appropriate behaviours at all times, stated a release.

This year in the districts of Assam various health activities were conducted in the Health & Wellness Centers (HWCs) like yoga and awareness rally by ASHAs was held in Nagaon and Sonitpur districts. Most of the HWCs in the districts held a health screening camps for the local population on common Non Communicable Diseases (NCDs). In Golaghat district awareness meeting was held with the Tea Garden Management & Tea Associations on Covid Vaccination, to motivate eligible beneficiaries to come forward and get the vaccine also an awareness meet was held with NCC Cadets who were sensitized on mental health apart from the food habits, importance of physical exercise in their growing years. Health Institutions in Lakhimpur district held special outreach health camp in the nearby villages of the Health Institutions. IEC and awareness sessions on Healthy & Balanced Diet, Mental Health and NCDs etc were disseminated to the public. In Hailakandi district a health check-up camp was organized in the district jail premises for the jail officials and inmates by the district NCD Cell in collaboration with District Legal Services Authority and Sanjeevani 104, the release added.
