‘World No Tobacco Day’ on May 31

GUWAHATI, May 29: Commemorating the ‘World No Tobacco Day’, the State Tobacco Control Cell will carry out series of events on May 31 across the state, focusing on the theme – ‘Tobacco and Heart Disease’.

The World No Tobacco Day, 2018 aims to highlight the links between the use of tobacco products, heart and other cardiovascular disease. The occasion will be celebrated across the state with various activities like rally, processions, public awareness meetings, art and essay competitions, mass bannering, distribution of pamphlets, signature campaign, street plays, newspaper advertisement, meeting with religious leaders, press meet and the like.

Meanwhile, a central program will be conducted at Srimanta Sankardev Kalakshetra by Kamrup (M) district administration and the State Tobacco Control Cell. State’s Governor will grace the function as chief guest. The departments of education, police, tax, social welfare, transport, municipal bodies, NGOs and health officials are expected to be attending the programme.
