World Wildlife Day Observed at Assam Don Bosco University

GUWAHATI: On the occasion of World Wildlife Day, the Department of Zoology, Assam Don Bosco University in collaboration with ECO Club, ADBU celebrated World Animal Day at Tapesia campus of the University on Friday. This day was observed in order to call for action for various causes related to animals including their rights and welfare. Fr (Dr) Stephen Marvley, Vice-Chancellor, Professor J N Vishwakarma, Director School of life science, Dr Monmoyuri Baruah, School of Fundamental and Applied Science, Dr Riju Sharma, Director of Humanities and Social Science graced the programme.

While addressing the gathering, Fr. Stephen Mavely highlighted the responsibilities we are entrusted within preserving the natural creation. He mentioned in his speech about the film that was released in 1972 named The Brother Sun and Sister Moon that was an epitome of his experience.

As per the event, a debate competition on “Is scientific specimen collection a barrier to conservation” was organized. The debate competition was followed by an extempore speech, brain teaser, wildlife documentary screening. The programme concluded with a closing remark delivered by Professor JN Viswakama stating that in a healthy ecosystem, all the biotic and abiotic components must be allowed to play their role as nature has designed.
