WWF India Assam inaugurates Ek Prithvi Model School Activity Room

GUWAHATI: With a focus on building environmental awareness and knowledge, developing the requisite capacity and skills, and enabling action for conservation, WWF-India launched their whole school programme, Ek Prithvi, in 2016. The Ek Prithvi Assam programme with 10 schools in Morigaon district started in 2019 in partnership with SCERT and the Government of Assam. The first activity room was set up in February 2022 at WWF Model School, Lokapriya GNB Secondary School, Pobitora, which is accessible to all the model schools in Morigaon district.

WWF-India inaugurated another activity room in Ek Prithvi Model School at Chakardeo Deshbhakta Tarunram Phukan ME School, Deepor Beel, on August 29. Karan Bhalla, COO, WWF-India, inaugurated the Activity Room in the presence of Neha Raghav, Head EE,WWF-India, Delhi; Archita Baruah Bhattacharyya, State Coordinator, WWF-India AAPSO; D. Doley Range Officer, Deepor Beel; Bimal Medhi, Headmaster, Chakardeo DTRP School; Deepor Beel; Lakhendra Teron, Local Resource Person, Community; Kalia Ingti; and former Headmasters of the school; and others.

In an address to the WWF State Coordinator Assam State Office, Archita Baruah Bhattacharyya informed that the activity room would help other schools nearby come and experience the environmental education activities, which would bring them closer to nature.

Karan Bhalla, COO of WWF-India, while expressing his satisfaction on the opening of the activity room, said that the initiative of WWF-India will help in attaining the goal of sustainability and expressed his hope that the activity room will positively impact the students as well as the teachers, stated a press release.
