Young Generation Must Follow Ideals of Great Persons: Sarbananda Sonowal

GUWAHATI: “Assam’s tea has a distinct reputation in the world and if we are to sustain its legacy and dominance in the global market than we must adopt latest scientific technologies in the field.” Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal today said while presenting the Lokanayak Omeo Kumar Das Award to the successful students in HSLC and HSSLC examinations belonging to the members’ families of Asom Chah Shramik Karmachari Bhavisyanidhi Sangathan at Srimanta Sankardev Kalakshetra.

Saying that Lokanayak Omeo Kumar Das played a pivotal role in implementing a historic Act which ensured socio-economic development of the tea community in the state, Sonowal asserted that Das had dedicated his entire life for the upliftment of the less privileged and urged the young students to follow the ideals of great personalities to strongly establish Assam at the world stage.

Referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s dedicated and tireless endeavour to make India strong, the chief minister said that the tea community had also come forward for development and he called on the state’s youth to aspire for achieving excellence in all fields as Prime Minister Modi had made some remarkable efforts to inspire to youth of the country.

The chief minister also said that the state government had been taking a lot of steps for uplifting the tea community like providing scholarships, free coaching etc to the meritorious students of the community for preparing for competitive exams and urged the tea tribe youths to take advantage of these initiatives for achieving development. Saying that the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, Fit India Movement, International Day of Yoga etc were some of the most notable initiatives of Prime Minister Modi, the chief minister stressed on the need to build a scientific temperament for removing superstitious beliefs and practices from the society.

In the programme, Sonowal also distributed financial aids to beneficiaries under Gratuity Act along with handing over cheques to the students for achieving success in the cultural field, a press release stated.
