GUWAHATI: The Y20 inception meeting on various issues was held at Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Guwahati on Tuesday. In this summit, young industrialist from Assam and MD of GR Dhanuka Group, Dr. Ghanshyam Das Dhanuka spoke on "Future of Work: Industry 4.0, Innovation, and 21st Century Skills". He was a part of the panel that included the Chief Consulting Engineer at GE Aviation D.Uma Maheshwar, founder and Chief Innovator at Marut Drone tech Mr. Prem Kumar, Professor at IIT; Guwahati Hydrogen Dr. P. Muthukumar also participated. Dr. Rakhi Chaturvedi, Professor and Head, Department of Biosciences and Bioengineering, IIT, Guwahati was present as a moderator.
Dr. Dhanuka highlighted the need for educational institutes to update their curriculum to cater to the emerging trends and needs of the industry and to bridge the gap between industry and academia. In a bid to fulfill this objective, the government of Assam is coming up with a world-class university that will focus on training students in new-age skills, such as blue ammonia, green hydrogen, healthcare, digital, cloud, cyber security and data management. Dr. Dhanuka outlined several key initiatives to improve the current education system and make it more industry-ready, including implementing a strategic shift towards hands-on skills and technology learning. Upgrading infrastructure in institutes, improving faculty quality through quality improvement programs, promoting academia-industry linkages to identify and upgrade the curriculum, introducing early digital learning in students, and making internships in industry mandatory. He further said these initiatives are expected to lead to an overall improvement in the institute, resulting in enhanced student placement, and improved university ranking, improved faculty research and innovation opportunities and expansion of academic streams into new areas with industry participation.
