Youth held over minor wife's death in Guwahati

GUWAHATI: The death under suspicious circumstances of a 16-year-old housewife in Sijubari of Hatigaon here on January 12 has created a sensation in the area.

According to police sources, the girl's husband took her to the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) on the night of January 12, allegedly after finding her hanging in a rented room.

Doctors at the GMCH declared her as 'brought dead'.

The husband, identified as one Roopchand Hussain (18), was arrested on January 13 on the basis of an FIR filed by the deceased girl's mother at the Hatigaon Police Station.

The police have registered a case (29/22 u/s 306/34 IPC r/w Section 9 of the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act, 2006) in this connection.
