GUWAHATI: “Everyone condemns the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016. I too condemn it. The word parivartan (change) is music to everybody’s ears. But what it exactly looks like is open for all now,” said noted singer Zubeen Garg in a letter to Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on the passage of the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016 in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday.

“I will certainly not accept the Bill. Ever since I was born, reverberation of protests against infiltration has been a cause of utmost concern for the people of Assam. Can the people who fought against Bangladeshi infiltration into the State spell disaster for Assam only to remain in power? Sarbada was in the AASU. If he too does so, who else can we trust? Till now, I am silent. I will be away from the State for a week. If Sarbada does something positive during this period, it is well and good. Or else I will have to agitate solo,” the singer said in his letter.
