1,385 posts of doctor and 550 posts of nurse vacant in State

GUWAHATI, Sept 5: Assam Health and Family Welfare Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has informed the State Legislative Assembly that as many as 1,385 posts of doctor and 550 posts of nurse have been lying vacant in the State. The minister said this while replying to a written question from AGP MLA Ramendra rayan Kalita. In his written reply to the question, Sarma said on Tuesday: “The total sanctioned posts of doctor in the State are 4,223 and that of nurses are 5,698. At present 278 of the 4,621 health sub-centres in the State are without any nurses.” Sarma further said: “At present there are six medical colleges and hospitals, one government ayurdevic college and hospital, 26 district hospitals, 14 sub-divisiol hospitals, 164 community health centres, 1,009 primary health centres and 4,621 health sub-centres in the State. We’re trying to fill up the vacant posts in phases.”
