14,133 posts of teachers vacant in State: Sarma

GUWAHATI, Sept 12: As many as 14,133 posts of different categories of teachers are lying vacant in Assam. State Education Minister Himata Biswa Sarma told the House this while replying to a question from Congress MLA Abdul Khaleque on Tuesday.

According to Sarma, 4,749 posts of lower primary school teachers, 2,871 posts upper primary school teachers, 5,267 posts of secondary school assistant teachers, 1,246 posts of subject teachers in higher secondary schools have been lying vacant in the State. Sarma further informed the House: “Till now 21,889 TET-qualified teachers have been recruited against permanent posts by the Directorate of Elementary Education, 71,255 TET-qualified teachers have been recruited on a contractual basis under the Sarba Siksha Abhiyan (SSA), 242 TET-qualified subject teachers have been recruited by the Directorate of Secondary Education and 576 TET-qualified assistant teachers have been recruited against permanent posts by the Directorate of Secondary Education.”
