252 city high-rise buildings may be sealed anytime

GUWAHATI, Nov 7:  As many as 252 high-rise buildings in Guwahati may be sealed any moment as the GMC has released the list of high-rise buildings that have violated the building bye-laws in one way or the other.

Talking to newsmen in the city today, GMC Commissioner rayan Konwar said: "The erring buildings listed don't tally with the building  plans based on which their owners got their construction permissions. The GMC has started drives against the erring buildings. Based on the ground reality, some of the 252 buildings will have to be sealed, and some will have to be dismantled by their owners." Konwar also said that the drive against illegally installed pump sets is also going on in full swing in the city. "As many as 115 pump sets have been seized and each of the erring families has been fined Rs 20,000," Konwar said.

Meanwhile, the GMC Commissioner has appealed to the people of the State to pay their property tax for the year 2015-16.
