36th geographers' meet

Guwahati, February 23: The 36th Indian Geographers' Meeting and Intertiol Semir is going to be organized from February 25 to February 28, 2015 by Gauhati University. The theme of the semir is the 'Environmental Changes and Challenges: Local, Regiol and Global Perspectives'. More than 500 semir papers, covering 16 general themes and sub themes, will be presented in the semir. The semir will also discuss the issue of climate change in the Northeast and its impact in the region. "We have proposed this particular theme so as to lay more emphasis on discussion of regiol problems like floods, shrinking tural resources, rapid population growth etc. We will also discuss the problem of immigration in the Northeast and Assam and the growing population due to this problem," said by Dr. Bimal K. Kar, convener of the semir. The iugural programme of the geographers' meet will be held at Pragjyoti ITA Centre, Machkhowa on February 25, 2015. The guests and delegates from countries like Japan, Turkey, Germany, Singapore, Bangladesh, Bhutan and Nepal and scholars from 25 universities of India will be present in the semir and the iugural programme.
