GUWAHATI, June 4: As many as 41 indigenous minority organizations of the State have extended their support to the State Government being led by Sarbanda Sonowal as the Chief Minister.

Speaking at the meeting, State Wakf Board Chairman Nekubur Zaman said: “In Assam the term ‘minority’ had been used to mean the minority people of East Bengal origin staying in the State in some particular areas. Likewise, funds for all Central schemes meant for the wellbeing of the minorities in Assam were poured in those pockets by the Congress Government for political mileage over the years, depriving the indigenous minority people of the State. The genuine minorities of the State have all along been deprived of their benefits by the Congress Government.”

Dighambar Jain Samaj, Guwahati president Rajesh Jain said: “We’ve faith on this government. We’ll be benefitted under this government. Of late, we have got the minority status. We’re 0.9 per cent in Assam. We have extended some suggestions to the State Government being led as the Chief Minister by Sarbanda Sonowal.”

State BJP Minority Morcha president Mominul Aowal, who presided over the meeting today, said: “Though crores of rupees were spent in the me of development of minorities by Dispur, only some select groups and pockets got the benefits during the Congress regime in the State. For the minorities belonging to the East Bengal root, many minority communities in the State were under threat. The Congress Government did shout the slogan for the development of minorities, but the actual indigenous minorities in the State were deprived of all benefits. However, the BJP has already incorporated various issues relating to minorities in the State in its vision document. At the Centre also, the rendra Modi Government is speaking and doing for the development of all. Sonowal is set to emulate Modi for the development of minorities in the State.”

The meeting thanked Sonowal for keeping the portfolio of Minority Development himself instead of giving it to others. They all hoped that now on there would be development of minorities in the State. The meeting was in favour of inquiries into the corruption in the Minority Department in the State. The meeting decided to work together for the development of minorities in the State.

Some of minority organizations that took part at the meeting belong to Jain (five organizations), 12 Christian organizations, 14 indigenous Islamic organizations etc.
