459 forest offences in KED in 2017-18

Guwahati, April 5: The Kamrup East Division (KED) of the Forest department has detected 459 instances of offences during the period beginning April 1, 2017 to  March 31, 2018.

While the Kamrup East Division comprises of seven ranges, mely, the Guwahati Range, the South Guwahati Range, the Palashbari Range, the Rani Range, the Sopur Range, the Protection Squad Range and the Central Circle Range, the items or the matters in respect of which the offences have been committed are timber, MFP, stone, earth, sand, silt and charcoal. As per sources in the Forest department, the number of offences committed in respect of timber in the KED during the period April 1, 2017 to  March 31, 2018 is 80. Likewise, the number of offences committed in the division during the same period in respect of MFP is 2, in respect of stone it is 94, earth 102, sand 170, silt 7 and charcoal 4.

The sources further revealed that the revenue collection by the Kamrup East Division of the Forest department in 2014-15 stood at Rs 2,80,21,340, in 2015-16 at Rs 3,11,01,511, in 2016-17 at Rs 11,33,51,631 and in 2017-18 (up to March 31, 2018) at Rs11,74,65,023.
