547th birth anniversary of Guru k observed

GUWAHATI, Nov 25: The 547th birth anniversary of Guru k was observed in the city with a four-day-long programme at Guru k HS School in the Sharab Bhati area of the city, which was attended by around 12 thousand devotees from the city and other places like Shillong and Jagiroad.

A devotee PP Singh said: “This occasion is also celebrated as Prakash Utsav in our community. The occasion included four-day-long programmes like Jagaran Kirtan, Akhanda Paath of our religious book, Kirtan and others, which are followed by distribution of Langars to the devotees coming to the festival. The programme was organized by Gurudwara Sri Guru Singh Sabha of Fancy Bazar, which was assisted by all other gurudwaras of the city. The programme will conclude today. k ji was the first religious person, who practically demonstrated the unity of all religions and he was also assisted by two devotees Bala, a Hindu person and Marda, a Muslim devotee. We, therefore, keep this festival also open for all the people of all religions.”

Organizing secretary of Punjabi Sabha Guwahati (PSG) Manjeet Singh Verma also said: “On this occasion, we are also initiating a step to get united all the Punjabi and Hindu people of the city through making a simple directory of the registered people to contact them in the yearly organized programmes like Raqngali Bihu or Baisakhi, Magh Bihu or Lohri and Dewali. We, therefore, request all the people to register in our directory to celebrate the festivals in a huge way.”
