68th VDO foundation day underway

GUWAHATI, Jan 28: The 68th foundation day of the Assam Village Defense Organization (VDO) began with a two-day function at Veteriry College field at Khapara in the city today. Thousands of VDO representatives took part at the meet.

While the delegates' camp was iugurated by Joint Police Commissioner Diganta Bora, the delegates' workshop was opened by Guwahati Police Commissioner Harendra Chandra th. Tribute was paid to founder of VDO Harirayan Baruah.

In his speech, th lauded the VDOs for their contribution in providing security to the people in rural areas and in dispelling superstitions from society.

The workshop was attended, among others, by IGP (administration) Pradip Chandra Saloi as the resource person. He threw light on various aspects.

VDO chief organizer Anjan Kumar Bora was also present at the workshop. A cultural procession would be taken out from the field in the morning tomorrow. The open session will be held at 12 noon when Chief Minister Sarbanda Sonowal would be the chief guest. Besides felicitating VDOs, the Chief Minister would extend fincial assistance to the families of VDO martyrs.
