A path-breaking screen storyline
BY OUR STAFF REPORTER
GUWAHATI, Dec 19: Preceding Akshay Kumar starrer Padman, an Assamese filmmaker Xahid Khan is receiving praises from cine goers in the State for taking up an issue of sanitation in the silver screen. It is needless to say that Akshay starrer movies like Toilet and Padman are getting applause worldwide.
This movie is about a girl in her first menstrual flow at a public place where she has to face prickly taunts and smirks from people on the street looking at her frock dappled with red stains.
Speaking to this reporter, Director Xahid Khan said, “I feel such a situation is faced by all females, directly or indirectly. What I want to get across through this film is to make a change in people’s mindset on girls or women in their periods. Menstruation after attaining puberty is a tural cycle for girls and it is as tural as males getting beard. When we don’t laugh at a man who gets his beard, why shall we laugh at a woman who is having her periods? Rather, we should help her if we can.” The movie has received compliments worldwide for taking up this important issue. After receiving plaudits as second best film in the 9th Intertiol Guwahati Film Festival, Alert-Condition: Red also got its official entry into cine Miami Fest 2017 in Florida, United States of America, Images Intertiol Film Festival for Women 2017, Zimbabwe, Cardiff Intertiol Film Festival 2017 in the United Kingdom, and has been invited for screening at Nepal Intertiol Film Festival in February 2018.
The film has been taken by Character Development Initiative (CDI), Department of Education, the Government of Delhi. CDI takes up screening of short films in schools at regular intervals for developing moral and creative characters in children and youngsters of the state. Xahid said that the movie was also especially screened at Srimanta Sankaradev Kalakshetra, Guwahati on the occasion of Women’s Day this year.
