AASSKU sets deadline, threatens self immolation

GUWAHATI, Feb 18: Setting a deadline, the All Assam Sanjogi Siksha Karmi Union on Thursday threatened to self immolate in front of Raj Bhawan in Guwahati if there issue is not addressed on or before February 20.

Staging a protest demonstration at Dispur Last Gate on Thursday, the AASSKU made it clear that if the government doesn’t re-appoints them by Saturday, they will self immolate themselves in front of Raj Bhawan on Sunday. The protest demonstration was attended by hundreds of AASSKU members. It may be mentioned that the protestors were detained by police and were taken to Basistha police station. However, the protestors broke the barricade of the Basistha police station and blocked the tiol highway twice. Following which, the police had to lathi charge and fire tear gas to control the protestors.

Alleging that a secret understanding took place few months back between parliamentary secretary Rekibuddin Ahmed and the AASSKU, the union also threatened to make the understanding public, if no action is taken to re-appoint them at the earliest. They also threatened to boycott Congress candidates in the coming election.
