AASU felicitates rank-holders in city

GUWAHATI, June 8: The All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) on Saturday felicitated the meritorious students of the state who cracked the civil services (mains) examition conducted by UPSC this year and the rank-holders of the class X (HSLC and AHM) and XII (HS Fil) state board exams.

Altogether, 99 rank holders of Class X and XII state board exams, 2017, 12 candidates who cracked the civil services (mains) from the state and 65 teachers were felicitated by the students’ body.

Gauhati University Vice Chancellor Dr Mridul Hazarika, who was the distinguished guest of the programme organized by AASU at Rabindra Bhawan here, urged everyone to ensure that students get equal facilities.  He said that the role of parents and the society is crucial in grooming a student.

“The sacrifice of the parents and teachers are also associated with their success,” Hazarika said.

IIT, Guwahati Director Gautam Biswas said that meritorious students are the flag-bearer of the society.   “It is indeed a day of joy for the students, teachers and parents of the successful students,” Biswas said.   

AASU adviser Samujjal Kumar Bhattacharyya laid stress on detailed study to rectify the evaluation system under the state boards and universities. He said that Education department must ensure that student can appear examitions without fear.

“SEBA must be reformed. The Government must ensure that student can appear for examition with a free mind,” Bhattacharyya said.

He also demanded the government for taking steps to set up an IIM in Assam.

“IIT, Guwahati was a result of Assam agitation. We now demand Delhi and Dispur to take steps for setting up an IIM and an IISER in the State besides opening new courses in the higher education institutes of the State,” said the chief adviser of AASU. AASU general secretary Lurinjyoti Gogoi and president Dipanka th were also present at the programme.
