AASU hits the streets on Hindu migrants

BY OUR STAFF REPORTER
GUWAHATI, Aug 11: The All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) today staged protest across the state against government’s decision to grant Indian citizenship to hundreds of Hindu refugees from Bangladesh. The AASU activists burnt the copy of the Minority Refugee Bill in protest against the Modi government.  “Assam is not a dustbin of Bangladeshi immigrant. As per the Assam Accord, all migrants, irrespective of religious affiliation, who had entered the state after March 24, 1971, will have to be detected and deported. We never accept government’s decision,” said AASU president Dipanka Kumar th.  “Centre’s decision to grant asylum and citizenship to illegal Hindu migrants from Bangladesh has already gone against the Assam Accord and is not acceptable to AASU,” he said.
