AASU opposes GU move to reduce teaching days in TDC

GUWAHATI, August 29: The All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) has opposed the decision of Gauhati University to reduce the number of teaching days in the calendar for each of TDC semester to 30 days from the existing 55-65 days.

In a statement issued to the press today, AASU president Dipanko Kumar th and general secretary Lurinjyoti Gogoi said: “The students of TDC semesters of GU never got 90 days of classes in a single semester.  The teaching days have been confined to 55-65 days. Now the university wants to reduce the number of teaching days further. This is an injustice being meted to the education of students. We caution the university authority to desist from such an act.”

Meanwhile, a delegation led by Dipanko Kumar th today met GU vice chancellor Dr. Mridul Hazarika and demanded of him to increase the number of teaching days for each of TDC semester to 90 days. The team also demanded of the VC of declaring results of each semester on time.

Meanwhile, the executive committee meeting of the AASU will be held at GU campus on August 31.
