GUWAHATI, Sept 13: The All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) is going to stage dhar in front of the offices of the deputy commissioners in the State on September 15 in protest against the steep hike in prices of essential commodities in the State.

In a statement issued to the press today, AASU president Dipanko Kumar th and general secretary Lurinjyoti Gogoi said: “The rise in the prices of rice, pulses, potato, onion and other essential commodities in the State has affected the poor hard. There had been such price rise during the Congress regime. Seeking a soccour to the mece, the people of the State voted the BJP to power. However, after coming to power, the Saffron party has utterly failed to contain the rising prices. Soon after coming to power, State Chief Minister Sarbanda Sonowal did visit markets and asked the deputy commissioner of each and every district and the officials of the Department of Food and Civil Supplies to prepare reports on price rise and act to control them. However, the directive has been proved to be fumes and bubbles. This apart, by imposing sale tax the government has paved the way for rise in prices. We want the rising prices have to be controlled, and exemplary punishment should be given to black marketers and hoarders. By controlling the prices of essential commodities, Dispur should prove its mission for a better Assam.”
