AASU team visits Bhupenda's Tollygunge house

GUWAHATI, Sept 26: A five-member team of All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) today visited the house of cultural icon Dr Bhupen Hazarika at ‘77 Golf Course Road, Tollygunge in Kolkata. The five-member team led by Assistant general secretaries Duldul Borkataky and Jayanta Kr Bhattacharya visited the with a view to preserving the maestro’s ‘heritage house’, where he composed most of his immortal songs in the sixties and seventies of the last century.

The team during the visit, talked with different persons and office-bearers of various organizations.  

The Tollygunge residence was the hub of Dr Hazarika’s cultural activities. His immortal songs were composed here, he made films and gave music from here and he wrote his jourlistic writings from this humble abode.

Cultural stalwarts like Lata Mangeshkar, Hemango Biswas, Hemanta Mukherjee, Mril Sen, Ritwick Ghatok, Dev And, Gulzar have all visited this famous address in Kolkata.

The AASU team expressed shock over the deplorable condition of the house.

The AASU team has demanded Assam government to take necessary steps for preservation of the house thorough negotiation with West Bengal government.
