AASU wants Dispur to bear treatment cost of Lazmi

GUWAHATI, Nov 4: All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) leaders Dipanko Kumar th and Lurinjyoti Das met ailing film director Kalpa Lazmi in Mumbai on Saturday.  The AASU leaders said that it was Lazmi who had taken care of Dr. Bhupen Hazarika and inspired him in his creative works. It was Kalpa Lazmi who had been beside Dr. Hazarika in his efforts to make Assamese culture and melody outside the State and abroad, they said. “Taking that into account, it’s imperative on the part of Assam Government to bear the expenditure of her treatment. We demand Dispur to bear the expenditure of the ailing film director,” a statement issued by the students’ body said.
The statement said: “The film director was in her emotiol best when we met her today.”
The AASU leaders felicitated her with a phulam gamosa, an eri chador and a bouquet. They also extended a meagre amount for her treatment and wished her early recovery.
