GUWAHATI, August 23: No matter how tempting it may appear, crime doesn’t pay. This statement has few takers these days in Assam where a large section of people opts to mind money only by committing crimes.

Sirajul Haque, a 27-year-old employee of a mobile shop, was abducted from the Birubari area by some youths yesterday. The abductors contacted the family members of Rahman over phone and demanded Rs 1 lakh for the safe release of the youth. The family members haggled hard and made the abductors agree to release the youth at Rs 60,000. They paid the abductors Rs 20,000 at Ganeshguri. The party asked the family members to pay the remaining amount at a place near Rahman Hospital at Sixth Mile. In the meantime, the family members took the help of Dispur police and the Crime Branch who could arrest one of the four abductors, Ritul Islam. The other three abductors have been absconding.

Meanwhile, the abductors released Sirajul at Bagorbori today. Search is on for the absconding abductors.
