Act to be amended: Barkotoky

GUWAHATI,  April 29: Assam Education Minister Sarat Barkotoky said that the State Government was contemplating on bringing an amendment to the Assam Venture Educatiol Institutions (Provincialisation of services) Act, 2011 for provincialisation of the venture educatiol Institutions of the state.

In this  regard, Barkotoky said, the junior colleges and schools of the sixth schedule areas will be given a special status.

Speaking as the chief guest in the 64th foundation day celebration function of the Dima Hasao Autonomous Council at Haflong today, the minister also  said that the state Government has been providing fincial grants to the Government  College, Haflong and other provincialised colleges of Dima Hasao for their infrastructural development like all the colleges situated in the general areas of Assam. The minister disclosed that the Government would also take a Cabinet decision soon to regularize the services of the contractual teachers of Haflong Government College who fulfilled the latest norms laid down by UGC.

The State Government also decided to take up the matter of setting up of the third campus of Assam University, Silchar at Haflong with the Union Ministry of Human Resources Development, Borkotoky added.
