Admit wrong decision on note ban, Ajmal tells Modi

GUWAHATI, Jan 11: AIUDF president Badruddin Ajmal has said that Prime Minister rendra Modi should admit that the demonetization was a wrong decision on his part, and that he should take steps to compensate farmers who have suffered much for this wrong decision.

In a statement issued to the press today, Ajmal said: “This is no secret that the ban imposed on 500-rupee and 1000-rupee notes was a political decision. The poor have been made to deposit their hard-earned money in banks in order to lend loans to corporate houses and capitalists. Even the apex bank of the country, RBI was not aware of the ban on high-value currency notes before it was announced. The RBI authorities have made it known that they were kept in dark while taking the decision to ban high-value notes. While making the announcement on the ban on high-value notes on November 8, 2016 Modi was on record saying as the move was to recover the black money and to tackle the problems of fake notes and insurgency. If that was true, how come the new 500-rupee and 2000-rupee genuine black money and their counterfeit ones have been recovered, and from insurgents also?  The AIUDF also wants the recovery of fake notes and black money, but that needs a proper plan. However, without following such a way, the Modi government has made the people to face inhumane suffering. The government is responsible for this.” Ajmal said: “The rural people, tea labourers, farmers and others in Assam have also been feeling the pinch of demonetization. In order to satisfy Modi, Chief Minister Sarbanda Sonowal is taking steps to make less cash regime a reality in the State. The ground reality, however, is that even today there a large number of ATMs in Assam that have gone dry. The farmers have to throw vegetables away for not being able to get the right price of their produces. Such an incident happened in Assam when the agri-horticulture exhibition was underway at Dispur recently. The responsibility of the government was to give famers a respite by ensuring right prices of their produces. We demand of the government to give compensation to the affected farmers. The Modi government should admit the wrong decision.”
