After Mali now allegation against Rakibul!

MIRZA, Sept 7:  Allegations galore in the Palasbari area that former State Forest and Environment Minister Rakibul Hussain was involved in corrupt practices in the me of allotting sand mahals to contractors. A local businessman, Basanta Kalita, alleged before the media today that Hussain had taken Rs 6 lakh from him with the promise of allotting him the sand mahal of the Kulsi river.

The allegation came close on the heels of the suicide note of Bishweswar Baruah ming former minister Jatin Mali. The note reads that Baruah suffered huge loss as he had to pay Rs 15 lakh to Mali who had promised him to ensure the allotment of the sand mahal of the Kulsi river. Baruah had to commit suicide due to the huge loss he had incurred, the note.

Basanta Kalita said: “I had to sell my landed property to pay Rs 6 lakh to Rakibul Hussain so as to get the sand mahal of the Kulsi River allotted to me. However, following a conspiracy hatched by Hussain, the Forest Department did not allot the Kulsi sand mahal to anyone. Hussain, however, allotted another sand mahal in gaon to a Congressman.”

Kalita further alleged that then West Kamrup DFO Babhesh Das, the husband of local MLA ndita Das, had also demanded Rs 50,000 and a Bolero car from him for the allotment of the Kulsi sand mahal.

That the greenery in West Kamrup was rampantly destructed during the past 15 months is an open secret.
