AGP splits, Sunil heads new party

GUWAHATI, March 8: A section of AGP leaders, who have all along been opposing any alliance between the regiol party and the BJP, today floated a new political party – Asom Ga Parishad (Anchalikatabadi Mancha) (AGP-AM) – with former Asom Yuva Parishad (AYP) president Sunil Rajkhowa as the president. With this the  AGP has formally split.

The new party has former ministers Bhabesh Baruah and Thaneswar Boro as advisers. The general secretary of the party is Digantajyoti Das. The party has announced its first list of five candidates today. They said that they are going to field candidates in over 45 LACs in this Assembly election. They are holding talks with other regiol parties for alliance.
