AZARA, Jan 10: As many as 277 Rani Tea Estate workers were given sanction letters amounting to Rs 2,500 at the Tea Garden Prize Money Fair at Rani Tea Estate in West Guwahati LAC on Wednesday. Kamrup DC Kamal Baishya and West Guwahati MLA Ramendra rayan Kalita were present at the function. The scheme had been announced in 2017-18 Budget. After demonetization in 2016, the government assured tea garden workers that they would be paid 2,500 each so as to get them linked to bank, and if they continued transaction and a similar amount would be paid to them latter, said the DC.
