Aikyatan awards given away

GUWAHATI, April 23: If politics is there to divide people, there is literature and culture to unite them – if the former is strong enough to break something, the latter is strong enough to mend or heal it. Aikyatan is such a literary mission that seeks to heal, not to break unity in society.

Organized by the Sadou Axom Xahitya Sanmilan (SAXS) today gave away its Aikyatan Award at its fifth anniversary at a function at Guwahati Press Club today. Presided over by SAXS president Ravsonlal Baruah, as many as 17 noted persolities from diverse fields were given away Aikyatan awards at the function today.

The recipients of the award are lifetime achievement award for poet Nilomani Phukan, best translation award for Anupam Kumar, special literary award for Monikuntala Bhattacharya, best youth organizer award for Ranjit Barman, best debut poetry book award for Inu Sarma, best debut book award for Rupak Chandra Saikia, best essayist award for Arupjyoti Hazarika, best jourlist award (print media) for va Kumar Sarma, best social worker award for Giridhar Choudhury, special literary honour for Kishor Das, popular actor award for Deb, best biennial magazine editor award for Barsha th Kalita, Sanskriti Sadha Award for Banda Das Dutta, thought-provoking writer award for Debojit Goswami, special Aikyatan Award for Dr. Suchitra Kakati, and the best jourlist (electronic media) for Montul Doloi.              

The function was attended, among others, by Kashmiri poet Dr. Agnisekhar, Buljit Buragohain and Paramanda Rajbongshi.
