GUWAHATI, June 26: The AIUDF has joined the chorus against the move taken by the Centre to privatize 12 oil fields in Assam. In a statement issued to the press today, AIUDF president Baduriddin Ajmal said: “If the oil and tural gas fields of Assam go to private parties, the State will have to incur huge loss in the form revenue. If the oil fields remain with Assam, apart from oil royalty the State can get revenue against them, as is the case in Gujarat. However, it is unfortute that the BJP government at the Centre is out to benefit the Corporate sector at the cost of the interest of Assam.” Ajmal appealed to Chief Minister Sarbanda Sonowal to take all steps to keep the ownership of the oil fields of the State with Dispur. The All Assam Students’ Union (AASU), the KMSS, the Congress and other organizations have also registered their voice against the current move to privatize Assam oil fields by the Union Petroleum Ministry.
