AIUDF moves Kovind on women varsity

By our Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, March 23: The AIUDF has moved President of India Ram th Kovind against Dispur’s decision to abolish the Northeast’s only woman university located at Jorhat in Assam.  In a memorandum submitted to the President of India on Friday, the AIUDF said: “At a time when the Centre has been laying stress on women education with the slogan – Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao – Dispur is contemplating on degrading the only women’s university in the Northeast into a technical institution. Since its inception in 2013, Dispur has been making do without appointing any permanent vice chancellor to the University. We, therefore, seek you to issue an instruction to the Assam Government to review the matter and to develop it into a full-fledged university.” The party also raised the demand for reopening of HPC the two mills and Kamrup sugar mill in Assam.
