GUWAHATI, August 27: AIUDF MP Badruddin Ajmal dashed off a letter to Union Minister of Exterl Affairs Sushma Swaraj drawing her attention to the plight of 570 Hajis from Assam at Makkah.

Ajmal told the Union minister in the letter: “Earlier, the Hajis of Assam were allowed to use gas cylinders to cook food of their choice, but this time due to security reasons they’re not allowed to use gas cylinders for cooking. In such a situation, the Hajis should have been provided with food that suites their health and habit. Unfortutely it didn’t happen.”

Ajmal further said in the letter that the 570 Hajis from Assam were uble to get suitable food. “This is badly affecting their health, and they don’t have money to buy food from outside. This has triggered a protest-like situation from Assam as people fear of serious health problems of their relatives who went to Haj,” the letter said.

Ajmal requested Swaraj to instruct the officials of the Haj Committee as well as the Ministry of Exterl Affairs to look into the matter, and solve the problems of Hajis of Assam immediately.

Meanwhile, in a release issued to the press today, Ajmal said: “The State and the Central Haj committees not acting promptly to solve the problem of food crisis being faced 570 Hajis of Assam is unfortute.”

Ajmal also demanded of the Assam Chief Minister to talk to the Exterl Affairs Ministry so get the problem solved immediately.
