GUWAHATI, April 19: AIUDF president Maula Badruddin Ajmal has filed a defamation suit of Rs. 99 crore against one Maula Mostak Anfar of Hojai. The case (144/2016) has been registered at Guwahati.

There is another defamation suit if Rs. 150 crore filed by Ajmal against Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president Anjan Dutta. The case is being heard by the court.

Mostak Anfar is a businessman from Hojai. He, according to Ajmal, is close to Congress leader Rakibul Hussain.

On April 10, a day before of the second phase polling of Assam Assembly election, Anfar had alleged before media in Delhi that Badruddin Ajmal was having a secret understanding with the BJP. He further alleged that Ajmal had taken money from the BJP and ‘if the BJP comes into power Ajmal would be held responsible’.

Ajmal, on the other hand, had alleged on tweeter that ‘if BJP comes into power, the Congress would be responsible because the AIUDF had tried its best to form an alliance with the Congress but the Congress leadership did not come forward’.

The defamation suit is being fought by civil lawyer Dilip Mazumdar and advocate AS Tapader.
