GUWAHATI, Jan 2: State Panchayat and Rural Development (P&RD) Minister Rakibul Hussain has termed AIUDF president Badruddin Ajmal an agent of the BJP who has to do anything the Saffron party wants to get done.

Talking to newsmen in the city today, Hussain said: “I think Ajmal is doing all these to keep his business flourishing. His sibling keeps meeting a senior BJP leader. We’ve information in this regard.”

Hussain has also charged Ajmal of being commul. “He talks much of Hindu-Muslim issues during election rallies, and pollutes the atmosphere in the State. His speeches are no different from that of BJP leaders – replete with politics blended with religion,” Hussain said.

When asked on the proposed Congress-AIUDF alliance, Hussain said: “I don’t know who the AIUDF will ally with. It’s for sure that he has come to know that his is a weak party that needs a stronger party to support. He is badly in the need of a stronger ally. The reality is that his party MLAs did precious little in their respective LACs during their terms. He has to rely more on allies.”

Hussain said that the there would not be any single party as the main rival party for the Congress. “We’ll have our rival parties LAC wise. They may be the AGP or the BJP. However, the AIUDF-BJP see the Congress their main rival party. This essentially means that we’ve a good grip in each and every LAC.”
