GUWAHATI, March 26: Alleging that a virtually chaotic scerio rules the roost in the education sector of the State, the Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba-Chatra Parishad (AJYCP) staged a dhar in front of the office of the Kamrup (M) Deputy Commissioner in Guwahati on Monday. The Parishad demanded that corrective measures be immediately initiated in the greater interest of the student community and that steps be taken for positive growth of human resources in the state.
Highlighting its demands, the AJYCP sent a 10-point memorandum to the Assam Chief Minister through the Kamrup (M) Deputy Commissioner.
Through its memo the Parishad alleged that the necessary academic atmosphere and infrastructure that should prevail in all government educatiol institutions from the lower primary level to the higher education level do not exist in the State. It has demanded that the necessary steps be taken to restore the desired atmosphere and infrastructure to put academics in the state on the right track in the interest of the students.
The AJYCP has further demanded that the status of IIT Guwahati be raised to the level of world class. In respect of medical education in the State, the Parishad demanded that the status of Gauhati Medical College & Hospital, Assam Medical College, Dibrugarh and Silchar Medical College be raised to the level of the world class medical colleges. It has also demanded that Jorhat Medical College, Barpeta Medical College and Tezpur Medical College be developed into full-fledged medical colleges.
The Parishad has also demanded that a white paper be issued by the State Government on what measures it has been taking to fulfill the announcements made in respect of improvement of medical colleges of Assam and also in respect of the medical colleges it has announced would be set up in the near future.
