AJYCP demands steps to save Majuli

By our Staff Reporter
GUWAHATI, Sept 10: The AJYCP has demanded a slew of concrete measures to protect Majuli and its people. In a statement, AJYCP president Biraj Kumar Talukdar said that the mere announcement of district is not enough a step to save the river island. Talukdar maintained that if flood and erosion are allowed to go unchecked days are not far when the river island would be totally gobbled up by the Brahmaputra. “Over the years, we have seen only utter negligence of the Government towards Majuli and its people. The governments, both in Delhi and at Dispur, should come out with concrete measures to save the river island,” said Talukdar.
