AKRSU for 3rd front

By our Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Sept 25: The Biswajit Roy faction of the All Koch-Rajbongshi Students’ Union (AKRSU) has proposed a third front in the State minus the Congress, the BJP and the BPF.

This announcement came close on the heels of AIUDF MLA Abdur Rahman making a statement recently that their party is interested in forming a third front with the AGP and the Left parties.

Talking to newsmen today, Roy said: “If the AIUDF and the AGP form a third front with the help of the Left parties, the Koch Rajbongshi community will support them, and that will ensure the defeat of the Congress and the BJP. The tiol parties always see Assam with a step-motherly attitude. The Congress, the BJP and the BPF put hurdles to the ST status to the Koch Rajbongshis. The BPF claims to be a tribal party but it doesn’t want ST status to be given to other tribes. If no third front is formed in the State, we may float a party ourselves.”

Roy said: “The Koch-Rajbongshis are deciding factors in as many as 50 LACs in the State where the community has its presence in all the 126 LACs. The BJP did assure us of ST status before the last Lok Sabha elections, but the party is silent on the issue after coming to power at the Centre.”
